With a total length of 5.9km including 4.2km in sea area, Xiang’an subsea tunnel is an important connecting passage between Xiamen Island and Xiang’an District, and is also the third connecting passage connecting the island and mainland. The tunnel is designed and built with two-way 6-lane, and runs across the sea area with three tunnels with 2 traffic tunnels on both sides and 1 service tunnel in the middle. Along the tunnel, there are ventilation shafts, 5 transverse galleries for vehicle and 12 transverse galleries for pedestrian. Upon the completion, the time on traffic is 82min less than before. The tunnel is built with the methods of drilling, blasting and subsurface excavating. It is the first section subsea tunnel in China mainland, and is also the one of the biggest section in the world.
